Hey everyone! I'm currently working in a factory but I used to study IT back in 2015-2016. I even got my A+ certification while learning about Security+ and Network+, but I never took those exams. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a job in the field at that time, so I had to put my IT aspirations on hold. I'm wondering what my best starting point would be now. Should I focus on renewing my A+ and aim to get the other two certs (Network+ and Security+) or is there something else I should consider? I still have some knowledge left, although I'll need to brush up on a few things and get some hands-on experience. Ideally, I'd love to transition into a new role by the middle or end of next year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jimmy.

There are definitely jobs in areas like cybersecurity and network admin, but don’t buy into the hype about tons of open positions—it's not quite the case. I see many experienced folks struggle to get job interviews. Be sure to research the job market in your area before making any moves.
That makes sense. I’ll definitely check the local listings.
Look for positions with titles like help desk support or desktop support. Those can help you get your foot in the door, and real-world experience will matter much more than the CompTIA certs in the eyes of many employers. Focus on gettingjob experience—you'll have better chances this way!
You might want to check out specific forums or threads that match your desired IT area, like cybersecurity or networking. The advice on breaking into IT has evolved, so stay updated on what employers are currently looking for. And you know what? There’s nothing wrong with seeking advice tailored to your situation. Everyone’s journey is unique!
Thanks for that! I'm really just looking for any and all guidance.
Completely agree! Individual insights can be super valuable.
It’s pretty tough out there in tech right now, but getting a helpdesk position could be a great entry point! Certifications are nice, but your real skills come from experience. I got my first IT job on my sixth application! Also, try building a homelab to gain practical skills—this can be way more beneficial than just collecting certifications.

Got it! I figured it would be something like that. Thanks for the insight!
