How to cool down SN850x NVMes running too hot?

I've got two SN850x 8TB NVMe drives installed on my motherboard, and I've noticed that even with the built-in heatsinks, one of them hits 50°C while idle and can exceed 85°C under heavy load. This has led to my computer shutting down unexpectedly, which is really frustrating. They're located right below my GPU in a new mid-tower rig (Fractal Pop Air) that has good ventilation, and I'm using Be Quiet Silent Wings fans at full speed, but the NVMe drives are still overheating. I'm considering using some small laptop fans to blow air directly onto the drives, but I'm worried about positioning them properly and the aesthetics since there's no dedicated spot for them in my case. Has anyone experienced similar temperature issues with the SN850x heatsinks, and what cooling solutions can you recommend?

The SN850x 8TB is dual-sided, which might be causing some of the overheating issues you're experiencing. One solution could be to add a thermal pad between the drive and the motherboard to help dissipate heat more effectively. For cooling, consider using a compact 50mm fan; you can even 3D print a small bracket to mount it wherever you can fit it in your case. It could really help lower those temps!

Just a heads up, if you're looking for thermal pads, they come in various thicknesses and sizes. Make sure you check out some detailed guides online to avoid any mistakes when applying them!
