Hey everyone! I started my career in 1989 and I'm now looking for part-time work in the IT field as I approach retirement. I live in Canada and I've noticed that many job sites don't have a good filter for part-time positions. I'm hoping to get some tips or advice on how to find part-time work in IT these days. Just to clarify, I'm open to roles beyond just sysadmin work. Thanks for any help!

Have you thought about applying at schools? Primary schools often have less intensive IT needs and limited budgets, so they might be more open to part-time help.

From my experience, managed service providers (MSPs) tend to be one of the few places where you can find part-time IT work. You could also consider independent consulting if you have a specialty area you're good at.

You could look into general office administration roles. These positions can be done part-time and usually involve paperwork, organizing tasks, and some basic IT support—kind of like entry-level help.

Some network operations centers (NOCs) might hire part-time staff, like someone doing two night shifts a week. But overall, part-time IT roles aren’t that common anymore.

I did that too! I worked two 12-hour graveyard shifts on weekends at a NOC, and it was actually pretty fulfilling. I sometimes miss that setup!
