How to Fix a Video That Downloads as Just a “File”

Hey everyone! I'm having a little trouble with a 9GB video file I downloaded from Dropbox. It plays perfectly fine on their platform, but when I download it, it saves as just a "file" type, without any extension. This is causing issues when I try to open it in Windows Media Player, as it doesn't recognize it. Should I simply rename it to .mp4 or is there a better way to handle this situation? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure that file extensions are visible in your File Explorer. If it confirms that your file has no proper video extension, try renaming it to add .mp4 at the end. That usually works!

This worked, thanks so much!

You can try adding ".mp4" to the end of the file name if you see file extensions in your settings. If that doesn’t work, you could also experiment with changing it to ".mov", ".wmv", or ".avi" instead. Sometimes, that can solve the issue!
