How to Get a Refund for an Accidental Subscription Purchase on Apple

Hi everyone, I really need some help here. I recently found out that a subscription costing around $40 was mistakenly purchased on my Apple ID by a minor without my consent. Once I spotted the charge, I immediately went to reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund. However, the response I got was that the purchase wasn't eligible for a refund. Now, Apple wants me to provide more information regarding my situation, which I did. I explained that it was an accidental purchase made by a minor and that the subscription hasn't been used at all. This situation is stressing me out because $40 is a lot for me. I've only requested a refund once before, which was back in July. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Did you manage to get your refund approved after explaining it a second time? Any advice on what I should do next?

You might want to look into setting up your phone so that it requires your Apple ID password for every purchase or even turn off in-app purchases altogether. Just a heads up, if you go for a chargeback, you might risk getting your Apple account locked permanently, which would be a hassle if you use it for other important things like Find My or media purchases. Also, keep in mind that if Apple denied your refund the first time, their decision is pretty much final unless you can provide compelling evidence for a different outcome.

It’s super important to secure your phone so kids can’t make purchases. A good step is to enable password verification for any kind of purchases. As for the refund, Apple usually grants refunds for purchases made accidentally by kids, especially if you act quickly and report the issue.

Keep in mind that not all purchases will qualify for a refund through Apple’s report a problem option. My advice? Call Apple Support directly instead of using chat. Explain your billing issue to a human; it can make a difference. Just remember, Apple isn't obligated to give you a refund since they may see the purchase as valid because a password was entered. Also, avoid doing a chargeback; that could lead to your account getting locked.
