How to Maintain Low GPU Fan Speeds Without Constantly Turning Them On?

I'm using a 5080 GPU and have my fan control set so that the GPU fans are at 0% when idle. As long as the case fans are running lightly, the GPU fans stay off. I have a fan curve that kicks them on at 30% when the temperature hits over 55°C with a 3°C hysteresis. However, I've noticed that during light loads, like playing League of Legends with around 10-15% usage, the temperatures gradually rise until the fans start running. Afterwards, they cool down and shut off, creating a cycle that's really annoying. I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the fans on at a minimum speed during light loads? Or should I just accept setting them to a constant 30% speed? I really enjoy the quietness when they're off. Thanks for any tips!

You might have to consider some serious modifications to keep a card like the 5080 cool under load. On the software side, you could undervolt the system a bit to help with heat management, but remember, silent operation and high power draw often don't mix well.

One simple solution would be to create separate profiles for your fan settings. Keep one profile for idle where the fans are at 0%, and then switch to a second profile when you start gaming, setting the minimum fan speed to 30%. This way, the fans won't keep toggling on and off during your games.

FanControl is definitely a good option. You can create a curve that monitors both CPU and GPU temperatures, ensuring the fans remain active when you're gaming. You might need to tweak the fan activation temperature, which can be a bit tricky.

Here's what I do for my GPU fans: I spend some time tweaking the fan speeds until I find a balance. Try setting a fixed speed like 10-30% and see if that’s quiet enough for you. Create a custom fan curve to maintain a low consistent speed that ramps up when temperatures increase. It’s all about finding the sweet spot where the fans keep things cool without being loud.

I haven't used it myself, but there's a plugin for Fan Control that allows integration with HWInfo stats. If you set that up and monitor GPU load, you could configure Fan Control to adjust according to your needs.
