How to Overcome Panic When Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone?

I'm really eager to gain the skills I need to land a job in tech, but whenever I try to study or tackle advanced projects, I get overwhelming feelings of panic. I started in frontend development, but my anxiety hindered my ability to progress, so I switched to data analysis. Unfortunately, the same feelings have followed me. Each time I attempt to work independently, like moving from watching a tutorial to trying something on my own in Excel, I feel panic attacks coming on. This is seriously holding me back from achieving my goals and making a career change from my current job, which I really dislike. I'm looking for advice on how to manage this situation and overcome my fears.

Remember that when you’re working on your own after a tutorial, there’s actually no pressure! No deadlines or stakes involved, since you already have a job. Be kind to yourself and treat this as a learning journey! It takes time to build up your skills in such a vast field.

Have you tried practicing some deep breathing? It can really help ground you when the panic starts to creep in, especially when you’re starting a new project.

It sounds like this might be more about your mindset than technical skills. If you’re only focusing on the end results, you might lose sight of the joy in learning. Finding a way to enjoy the process might make it easier to tackle those projects without the pressure.

It might help to talk to a therapist about what you're feeling. They can provide you with tailored strategies to manage anxiety more effectively.
