How to Reactivate Windows After Changing My Motherboard?

I recently updated my motherboard and CPU, but now Windows isn't activated. My activation key was linked to my Microsoft account, and I even upgraded to Windows 11 hoping it would resolve the issue. Now in the settings, it shows both my current computer and the one with the old motherboard, but the devices aren't appearing in my Microsoft account. I also tried using the troubleshooter to indicate that I changed hardware, but it doesn't recognize either computer. Can anyone help me figure this out?

It sounds like your Windows license might be tied to your old motherboard. When you swapped it out, Microsoft could see this as a different machine. Ensure you're logged into your Microsoft account and use the troubleshooter again, checking for any options to specify your current device as the one needing activation.

Yeah, there's usually a way in the troubleshooter to indicate the device you're using. If it's not showing up, it could be a glitch. Make sure your computer is fully updated and then retry the troubleshooter. Sometimes, just refreshing the process can shake loose those missing activation details.

You might need to transfer the license manually if it's still tied to your old motherboard. Sometimes if you contact Microsoft support, they can help you switch the activation to your new hardware.
