How to Reactivate Windows After Changing My Motherboard?

I've had my Windows license for about 10 years and usually, I can swap my SSD between different PCs without any issues. I just got a new SSD with more storage to migrate my Windows installation, and everything worked fine initially. However, now I'm seeing 'Activate Windows' in the corner of my screen. The troubleshooter says my Windows is offline, and when I try to call Microsoft's support number, it continuously redirects me to their website, which isn't helpful at all. Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks for your assistance!

By the way, migrating an OEM license can be tricky. If your old PC was a prebuilt and you got the OEM version with it, that key likely won't work on your new setup. But if you paid full price, there’s a chance it might still transfer. I've moved OEM licenses using the activation troubleshooter before, but it can vary by case.

It sounds like you're hitting a common roadblock with Windows activation after a hardware change. When you call Microsoft, they may send you to their website, which can be frustrating. Unfortunately, only Microsoft can manage the activation for your key. Just to note, if you're in the U.S., that number is 1 (800) 642 7676.

Did you have an OEM version of Windows? Those licenses often aren't transferable. If you bought a retail version or something similar, you can usually re-associate it with your new machine. You may need to remove the old association from your Microsoft account first. I did something like that a while back when I switched motherboards.
