How to Rename a SharePoint Domain When Lacking a Microsoft.com Domain?

I have a client who originally created their Microsoft tenant with the domain xyz.com and has since added and verified a new domain, zyx.com. The issue is that there is no zyx.onmicrosoft.com domain available in their tenant, and according to Microsoft, this is required to rename the SharePoint domain. Has anyone faced a similar situation? Is it possible to rename the domain without the required onmicrosoft.com domain, or do we have to remove zyx.com and register a new tenant?

You might want to check out Microsoft's documentation on changing your SharePoint domain name. They have a guide that could be really helpful! But it seems like the complication you're facing is that you don't have the zyx.onmicrosoft.com domain, which can create a roadblock for the rename process.

Thanks, I've gone through that documentation already but I'm still confused. I can see that zyx.sharepoint.com is available, but without zyx.onmicrosoft.com, I can't proceed with the domain change from xyz.sharepoint.com to zyx.sharepoint.com.
