How to Start a Business on a Tight Budget

I've just wrapped up a series of outpatient procedures and I'm gearing up to launch my business in May, if not sooner. With over ten years in IT and experience in data mining, I'm looking for affordable ways to get everything set up—like a business phone, email, and a customizable website. I'm applying for grants, so having my own polished website is essential, even if it evolves over time. I'm totally open to all suggestions, including any templates you might want to share as I recover and get everything rolling. What do you recommend?

Have you considered Squarespace? It’s pretty user-friendly and has various customizable templates. Just keep in mind that reviews were mixed in the past, so I recommend checking out some recent feedback to make sure it fits your needs.

Yeah, I've heard similar things about Squarespace not having the best reviews in the past. Wondering if it's really improved now.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look at recent reviews before deciding.

If you're looking for something cost-effective, you can launch without spending a lot. Start by buying a domain and consider using tools like WordPress or Webflow for your website. For your email, use Gmail with your custom domain. There are also great options for creating pitch decks and documents, like Runable, Gamma, or Notion. Remember, don't stress too much about branding in the beginning; just get your product out there first and refine it later. A lot of solo founders follow this approach!

I totally agree with this! Just focus on getting something out there. You can always tweak things later.

Thanks for sharing this! I think I needed the reminder to not overthink it right now.
