How to Stop Charges After Auto Migration to Azure Front Door?

I just received notice that Azure automatically migrated my old web apps from CDN classic to Front Door, but I wasn't ready for the jump in costs—my bill has gone up from just a few pence to £7.50 this billing cycle! Most of these apps are inactive since their domains expired, and I'm still trying to download a backup of my data before deleting everything.

Right now, I'm attempting to delete the Front Door endpoints to stop further charges, but some of them are stuck in the 'deleting' status for quite a while. I'm wondering if there's a comprehensive set of steps I should follow for this process, or if the only way to be completely sure is to delete my entire Azure subscription? Anyone in a similar situation with old Azure CDN apps, please share your insights before this auto-migration leads to high monthly fees!

It's possible you might have missed notifications about an expiring Digicert certificate, which was crucial if your CDN Classic instance was close to the deadline for migration. They had a cutoff on April 14th, and many users got warnings prior to the auto-migration.

Yeah, I completely overlooked those emails, thinking I had more time. Definitely not a good experience with the sudden changes!

Auto-migrations that change your billing structure without you opting in are frustrating. With Front Door, the pricing is very different, often coming with additional costs for routing rules and WAF policies. Make sure to check and optimize your Front Door settings to avoid unnecessary charges. If you haven't already, it can be worth it to reach out for support; they sometimes provide billing adjustments for these types of transitions.

Good to know! I’m planning to ditch Front Door since I only needed CDN Classic to support custom domains for my static sites. Going to switch to Azure Static Web Apps instead—much simpler for my needs!

Deleting Front Door resources can be a slow process, especially if you had a lot of configurations set up. There's a guide on Microsoft’s site that touches on this and explains it might take some time to actually complete the deletion.

I found the same! I thought nothing was happening, but then I checked the activity log and saw that the deletions were processed. Fingers crossed that you won't see any more charges now!
