I recently got a new iMac and I'm trying to transfer data from my old 2011 iMac. However, my backup drive is a USB type which won't work with the new iMac since it doesn't have a USB port. I have over 20,000 photos that I need to transfer, and without the backup, the process might take forever. Is there a way I can still use my old backup drive for the transfer? Additionally, I have two movies in my iTunes library on the old iMac that aren't showing up on any of my other devices. How can I retrieve those? They are among my favorites and I'd hate to lose them!

Another option is to use an external DVD drive with an adapter to read from your old backup. It worked for me when I needed to access files from an older disk!
Have you considered using AirDrop for smaller batches? But to be honest, with so many photos, it might be easier to just grab that adapter and transfer everything in one go.
If those movies were purchased from iTunes, they should be available in your purchase history on the Apple TV app. If you rented them, though, it’s likely they’ll be gone once you stop using the old iMac.
You can buy a USB-C to USB adapter from Apple or a generic brand for around $20. This will let you connect your backup drive to your new iMac without any issues.
