I'm trying to repurpose a hard drive from an old computer and make it portable using a 3.5" enclosure. However, I ran into some trouble while assembling it. I think the connection might be wrong. Could someone help me figure out if I bought the wrong type of enclosure? What is the correct type of connection for this setup?

You definitely got an enclosure meant for a SATA drive. What you really need is an IDE enclosure, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ARNCYEU.
It looks like you might have a SATA adapter, but your hard drive is using an older IDE interface. They are different, so check the connection type on your HDD.
Ok thank you!
