I'm looking for advice on using static wristbands while building a PC, especially when the power supply unit (PSU) isn't installed yet. Most tutorials I've seen suggest plugging the PSU in while connecting the wristband to it or any metallic part of the case. But what if I need to assemble the rest of the PC first? Can I just plug the PSU into the wall socket and use the wristband that way? Or is it safe to clip the wristband to an ungrounded metal surface? I know this might sound silly, but I haven't found a clear answer yet.

You really don't need to overthink this! If you're careful and not building on a carpet, you're likely safe without a wristband. A while back, a popular tech channel tested this and found that the static electricity needed to damage components is much more than what your body can usually transfer. Just take care with sharp edges and handle parts gently!

Yeah, I guess I’m just extra cautious since it’s my first build! But wristbands are cheap, so can’t hurt to be careful, right?
