Hey everyone! I have an HP Victus laptop powered by a Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4070, and I love using Omarchy (an Arch Linux distro with Hyprland). However, I'm facing a severe issue: when I game or run heavy programs, my CPU temperature skyrockets to 100°C! The strange part is that the fans hardly ramp up—they're super quiet and barely spin faster even after prolonged high temperatures. My previous laptop used to sound like a jet engine at high load. Am I dealing with a hardware malfunction, or is this a common Linux issue? I'm currently on the Linux 6.17.3-arch2-1 kernel. I've looked into fan control options, but they seem confusing. Is anyone else experiencing this? What can I do to fix this? Thanks for the help!

Before diving into DIY fixes, check your UEFI firmware (also known as BIOS). Some options for fan speed settings might be there, though it's typically not as flexible on laptops. Be aware that fan control can be a bit tricky on models designed primarily for Windows.
I had a similar experience on my HP with Windows. The Omen Gaming Hub managed the fan speeds perfectly, pushing them up to 5900 RPM. I suspect the issue might be related to lack of support on Linux. Good luck with it!
That 100°C mark is definitely not good, and your laptop will throttle to protect itself. Try checking if you can adjust the fan speeds or even clean and reapply thermal paste if needed!
