Why is my Wi-Fi slow during the day but fine at night?

Hey folks! I'm currently staying in a different apartment and I've been experiencing really slow Wi-Fi speeds during the day—like 2-3 Mbps, which is pretty rough. However, at night, it picks up to around 30-40 Mbps. On the other hand, using a LAN cable gives me a stable 100 Mbps all day long. I've already tried switching to the least crowded Wi-Fi channel and even changed the router, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas on what's causing this and how I can fix it?

It sounds like you might be dealing with interference from nearby devices or networks during the day. I suggest toggling between the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands to see if that makes a difference. It’s rare, but both bands could be facing issues at once!

I appreciate the suggestion! The 5GHz band is pretty bad during the day, practically unusable, while the 2.4GHz does work but barely. And it's not too crowded here—just about ten networks around.

Yeah, my guess is interference too. If you can, log into your router and play around with the channel settings. Make sure the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks aren't overlapping too much. Also, you might want to tweak the channel widths; 20MHz for 2.4GHz and 40MHz for 5GHz could help! Also considering giving them different SSIDs might benefit older devices that struggle with automatic switching.

I did try adjusting the channel widths, but it didn’t help much. I'll give separating the networks a go. Just in case it's important: the Wi-Fi works reasonably well when I'm close to the router, but gets really slow just a few meters away. I think it might be interference; I just hope there's an easy fix since I work from home.
