I Accidentally Downloaded Illegal Content from a Dropbox Link—Am I in Trouble?

Hey everyone, I need some advice because I'm really anxious about a situation I found myself in. A few days ago at work, I clicked on a Dropbox link shared in a Telegram channel without realizing it contained illegal content. I downloaded the files directly to my phone's photo album, not to the Dropbox cloud. Once I got home and saw what the videos were, I freaked out and deleted everything: the Telegram app, my Dropbox account, and the videos from my phone. Now I'm worried about whether I'll get in trouble, especially since my IP address might be logged for accessing the link, even though I didn't upload anything. Can anyone reassure me or provide some guidance on what I should do?

You really should consider reporting the person who shared that link if you know them. It's a serious issue, and the police could help put a stop to the spread of that kind of material. But I get that this is super scary right now!

I didn’t get the chance to find out who it was; I just panicked and left the channel.

If you're really worried, talking to the police might be a good idea. They can provide guidance and might even track down whoever started this whole thing. It’s always better to be proactive.

From what I understand, merely downloading illegal content might get you flagged, but the real legal trouble usually comes from uploading or sharing it. One guy I heard about was arrested only after years of being investigated once he started sharing. So, you might not be in as much danger as you think, but it’s definitely a big lesson learned about clicking unknown links!

Yeah, but I’m still worried they might track my IP from that download. Should I be concerned?
