I Got Scammed by a Discord Game Invite, What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I'm feeling pretty embarrassed right now because I fell for a "try my game" scam that came from a hacked Discord account. I'm pretty sure I downloaded some malware onto my computer. Since then, I've taken a few steps: disconnected from Wi-Fi, changed my passwords, created a new Discord account with a new email, and even contacted my bank—all from my phone. However, I also visited the website that hosted the download on a different computer. Is that one at risk too? Any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, the best option might be to start from scratch. Just backup your important files and do a full drive format. After that, you'll feel a lot safer! And make sure you have 2FA enabled on your accounts to prevent future problems.

Make sure to only download files from trusted sources. If you just downloaded the executable and didn't run it, you're probably safe on that other computer. But if you did run it, then that's a different story. Back up your important files to the cloud and consider a full wipe if you're really concerned.

Sounds like you've already taken some smart steps! If you haven't downloaded the .exe on your other computer, you should be in the clear. For your infected computer, I recommend wiping it and reinstalling Windows. And definitely set up some antivirus software like Malwarebytes or Bitdefender to keep things safe moving forward.

You might want to wipe your infected computer completely, just to be sure. Also, take it as a lesson learned—when friends are acting weird or asking you to try 'games', be cautious! It’s great that you’ve changed your passwords and contacted your bank.

I feel your pain! I had a similar issue and ended up having to format my HDD/SSD and start fresh. It's a hassle, but better safe than sorry. Don't forget to change your passwords everywhere and let friends know about the hacked account so they can be cautious too!
