I’m Interested in Programming but Don’t Know Where to Start, Any Tips?

I'm looking to dive into programming, especially in the areas of pentesting, game development, and basic programming. I have Free Code Camp installed on my Steam Deck, but I'm wondering if that's enough to get started or if I should explore other resources. Any suggestions or recommendations on where to begin would be greatly appreciated!

I highly recommend W3Schools too! It's a free platform that provides tons of coding tutorials. It might feel overwhelming at first, but take it bit by bit. Just practice daily and don't give up.

Honestly, Free Code Camp is pretty solid for starting out. Just remember, it's all about staying motivated, especially when things get dry. Don't let the boring parts discourage you!

I've been using boot.dev to get started. It's a structured approach to learn coding. I think the key is to pick a language and stick with it until you're comfortable, then expand your skills. Getting hands-on with projects and contributing to open source can really boost your experience.

If you're leaning towards pentesting or game development, those are pretty different areas. I'd recommend focusing on one. For pentesting, you should definitely learn Python. For game development, consider learning C# with Unity. If you just want general programming skills, Python is the way to go. A good resource for Python is 'Automate the Boring Stuff with Python'; it covers basics while you decide your path.

What about resources for pentesting and game dev specifically? Any tips?

Computer security and game development are distinct fields. If you want to try both, starting with JavaScript and HTML can be beneficial. They’re web languages but can also help you create simple games. Plus, you can get instant feedback, which is motivating! For security, knowledge in low-level languages like C is essential, but starting with web development can still give you relevant skills.
