iOS 18.5 Photo Indexing Nightmare—What Can I Do?

Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here. I really regret updating to iOS 18.5 last year because since then, my Photos app has been stuck endlessly indexing. I can no longer search for anything, and this has been going on for over a year now. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and my iCloud is backed up. I've made sure to keep my phone locked, charged, and connected to WiFi every single night, but it still won't index. I used to easily search through my 23,000+ photos, but I'm starting to worry that the indexing will never finish. What can I do?

Just a heads up, iOS 18.5 was released in May, so you haven’t been using it for a year just yet. It might be worth considering doing a reset and restore instead of continuing to deal with this annoying issue.

That really sucks! You might want to try updating your phone again to see if that forces it to rebuild the index. Another option is to do a factory reset and let it rebuild everything from scratch, but be careful and make sure you have your data backed up before you go down that road.

Are you sure it’s still indexing? Do you have a solid backup just in case? If it's dragging on like this, you might want to just erase the device and restore from your backup to get a clean slate.

Have you checked for any further updates? Sometimes new updates fix bugs, and what you’re experiencing might just be a glitch that could be resolved with a new patch.

You can always reach out to Apple’s tech support. They have a team that can help troubleshoot and escalate your issue. It's a hassle to wait for something to get fixed, especially for a year, so don't hesitate to ask for help!
