Is 12GB vs. 16GB VRAM a Big Deal for Gaming?

I'm curious if there's a significant difference between 12GB and 16GB of VRAM when gaming. Also, I'm thinking about upgrading from a PNY GeForce RTX 3060 TI to either a 5070 or 5060. Do I need to consider upgrading anything else, like my power supply? I currently have an 850W supply.

The VRAM difference is just 4GB. For most games that don’t use more than 12GB, you won't notice much performance difference. However, titles like Cyberpunk with path tracing push past 12GB, and that can really drag down performance. That said, even a 12GB card would struggle with path tracing unless it’s super powerful. As for your 850W power supply, it’s more than enough for a 5070.

Honestly, going from a 3060 TI to a 5060 feels more like a sidegrade than an upgrade. The 5060 isn’t much better. Maybe look into something else in the $500 range?

If you're considering alternatives within that budget, let me know what you're looking for in terms of performance and I'll suggest something!
