Is 75°C too hot for my GPU?

I'm experiencing overheating issues with my Nvidia 3080 while playing games. Recently, I played a 2017 title, Rising Storm 2, at 4K and after about an hour, my GPU temperature hit around 75°C. The graphics would fail, fans spun up to 100%, and I had to forcefully shut down my PC. I've cleaned my PC and updated the drivers, yet it still overheats. Switching to 2K and enabling gaming mode on my fans has helped, but I can run newer, more demanding games, like Hell Let Loose, at 4K without issues. I'm concerned it's overheating, especially since another game crashed shortly after Rising Storm 2 did, implying I may not have allowed enough cooldown time before starting another game.

You might want to check your crash reports; when the display fails and fans max out, it could be a BSOD issue that you're missing. Your GPU shouldn’t crash at 75°C, but overheating RAM could lead to similar problems. It might be worth doing a thorough diagnostic on your hardware.

I’m no expert, but I often see my GPU hover around 75-78°C while gaming, and I haven’t had any crashes.

Have you checked the hotspot temperature? That can give you a better idea of how hot it truly is.

Do you have XMP or EXPO enabled? Sometimes, faulty memory configurations can cause crashes like the ones you're experiencing.

If you're worried about overheating, consider setting a more aggressive fan curve for your case and GPU. What kind of case do you have? It might help improve airflow.

Honestly, 75°C isn't overheating at all for a GPU, so it might be a different issue at play.
