Is a 1000W PSU Enough for an RTX 5090?

Hey everyone, I'm considering upgrading to an RTX 5090 and currently have an RTX 4080 setup with a 12900KS CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and a Z790 AURUS ELITE motherboard, cooled by an i150 CPU cooler. When I checked with pcpartpicker, it indicated a power draw of 952W with the new GPU. Do you think my current 1000W power supply will handle it, or should I upgrade to a higher wattage PSU?

I agree, it's on the edge. You could be fine in normal use, but if both the CPU and GPU hit their peak at the same time, you might overload it. Since you’re spending a lot on the GPU, getting a new power supply makes sense. You can always sell your old one, too!

I'd definitely recommend upgrading to at least a 1200W PSU. That 1000W is cutting it close and could put you at risk, especially under heavy load.

You might be fine for gaming as your actual usage could be lower—around 650-750W at peak. But having extra headroom is a smart move!

Right? It's always better to be safe than sorry, especially with such a powerful setup!
