Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new PC soon, and I'm pretty new to all of this. I've done some research, but I wanted to get some input from you all since I'll be spending significant money and want to maximize my value.
My primary use for the PC will be for taking digital X-rays (so it needs to run the necessary software and handle light 2D and 3D rendering). I also want to do some basic video editing and, when I get the chance, indulge in some gaming, like playing Valorant or maybe even GTA 5 or 6.
I've picked out some parts:
- Intel Core i5 14600K
- MSI B760 Gaming WiFi Plus motherboard (overkill, or should I go for the 790?)
- Gamedias Aura GL360 AIO cooler (considering heat in my area; but I heard AIOs can fail)
- G.Skill Ripjaws S5 16x2 6000MHz RAM (not sure about the CL)
- 750W 80 Gold Plus PSU (is that too much wattage?)
- 2TB Gen5 NVMe SSD (should I stick with Gen4?)
- A mesh case for good airflow
- And most importantly, I'm planning to get an RTX Ventus 4060 2OC GPU later since my budget is tight—hoping to game on the integrated graphics in the meantime.
After researching, I found this setup isn't ideal for 4K gaming but should handle 1080p and 1440p fine. High refresh-rate 1080p monitors are quite pricey, so I'm leaning toward a 240Hz 1080p setup.
So, if I'm looking at a 1080p 240Hz monitor, is this setup overkill? Should I downgrade my CPU or GPU? Any other suggestions? I believe this forum is the perfect place to help answer my questions!

If you're aiming for gaming, I recommend considering a 1440p monitor instead. The jump from 1080p to 1440p is significant, and you can find a decent 1440p 144Hz monitor at a reasonable price. It might be a better investment than a high refresh-rate 1080p screen.
Your graphics choice depends on the games you play. If you're into competitive FPS games, forget about 4K; you’ll want a solid refresh rate instead. Consider a 2K setup for a better experience if you're into FPS games.
I suggest building a machine focused on 1440p 144Hz gaming. Invest more in a GPU and then find a bargain on a secondhand 4K 60Hz monitor on eBay. It’ll help keep your build balanced when you're not trying to do too much with your setup.
1440p gaming is really worth it, you’ll love the visual fidelity while still getting good FPS.
Totally agree! Honestly, 4K feels a bit overhyped; it’s mainly pushed by GPU sellers. You'd enjoy better performance with 1440p.
