Is a Monitor Brightness of 250 Nits Enough?

Hey everyone, I just ordered a new monitor (MSI - MAG 274QF X24) and I realized its brightness rating is only 250 nits. My old monitor had a maximum brightness of 400 nits. Can anyone share how significant this difference will be? Will the 250 nits be a big issue, especially for gaming? Thanks! (P.S. I know it's nits, not bits; thanks autocorrect!)

Honestly, it really depends on how you used your old monitor. If you had it cranked up to max brightness, going from 400 to 250 nits will be quite a difference. I've got a display that hits around 1000 nits, and even on 35/100 brightness, it feels too bright! You might be fine if you don’t have direct sunlight hitting the screen, though.

So I used the monitor's super bright mode, which is why I'm worried. I have a window in front of the monitor, but the sun doesn't shine directly into the room; it's usually blocked by a tree.

My laptop has a 250 nits screen, and it really struggles with darker scenes in games when I'm in a dim room. I switched to a monitor rated at 380-400 nits and noticed a big improvement!

Thanks dude!

250 nits is usually fine for indoor use, but if you sit near a bright window, it could be an issue. If light hits the back of the monitor, you might be okay. Just something to keep in mind!

I do have a window behind it, but it rarely shines directly into the room; it’s usually filtered.

If you regularly used your old monitor at 400 nits, switching to 250 will definitely feel dimmer—especially if you're gaming in a bright room. Just a heads-up that it might be noticeably less bright for you!

Thanks dude, I thought this may be the case. My room isn’t massively well lit but I play a lot of CS2 so the brightness is helpful :/

Simple as this: 250 nits is almost half as bright compared to 400 nits. So, expect a noticeable decrease in brightness overall!
