Is a Ryzen 5 5600G compatible with an RX 6800XT?

I'm considering an upgrade for my PC and I'm a bit uncertain about pairing components. Right now, I have an A320M-K motherboard, a Ryzen 5 5600G, and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM in a dual-channel setup. I plan to get a better power supply too. I spoke to a technician who warned me that combining the Ryzen 5 5600G with an RX 6800XT might result in bottlenecking that could potentially damage my parts, suggesting I should go for the RX 6700XT instead. However, I'm tempted to go for the RX 6800 due to its additional 4GB of VRAM. I'd love to hear what you all think about this setup!

Honestly, that technician's advice seems off. You won’t damage your components just from bottlenecking. The RX 6800XT should work well with your setup. Just make sure to upgrade your generic power supply to something reliable, like an A750BN or better. Replacing it with something like an 800W 80+ Gold might give you even more headroom, so go for it!

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm leaning towards the 800W 80+ Gold now.

It will definitely work! I used to pair a Ryzen 5600X with a 7800XT on a 750W PSU and had no problems. Now I’ve upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and it's flying! You should be fine with the RX 6800XT if you upgrade the PSU to around 800W too.

Awesome to hear! Do you think 800W 80+ Gold will be sufficient?
