I've heard that NVIDIA has had some driver issues on Linux, especially with SteamOS. I'm interested in tinkering with SteamOS and I'm wondering if AMD hardware is a good option for running Linux. How well does AMD support Linux, particularly for gaming?

AMD and Intel generally have a plug-and-play experience on Linux. While NVIDIA has improved their compatibility over time, it still doesn't match AMD's ease of use. Just a heads up, SteamOS itself isn’t fully ready for all hardware yet; you might want to consider alternatives like Bazzite.

I've got a Radeon GPU myself, and I've had zero issues with it. It's been really good for my Linux setup!

I run a 9800x3d with a 9070xt on Linux, and everything works perfectly. No complaints here!

AMD graphics cards usually have great support on Linux since their drivers are included in the kernel. If you're looking for a straightforward experience, AMD is a safe bet!

Most people say that AMD is really solid for Linux, and it tends to just work. You won't have the same hassles as you might with NVIDIA drivers, which can be a hassle to deal with on Linux.

Absolutely, AMD runs smoothly on Linux because the drivers are included in the kernel. Just be cautious if you're planning to buy the latest AMD hardware; it might not work with all distros right away. I learned this the hard way when I bought a brand new GPU and found out my distro's kernel was outdated. I'd suggest using a rolling release distro for the best compatibility. Also, while SteamOS is fun to experiment with, consider using Bazzite or Nobara instead for now.
