Is an 850W PSU enough for an RTX 5090 with a 7800X3D?

I've been running my BeQuiet Straight Power 11 850W 80+ Gold PSU with a 3080ti and a Ryzen 7800X3D for about 3.5 years. Under heavy gaming loads, I've seen my total system power draw hit around 630W at the wall with some overclocking. I just ordered an Inno3d iChill Frostbite 5090, which has a TDP of 575W. I'm wondering if my current 850W PSU will still be sufficient, especially since BeQuiet allows for short peak draws without shutting down. I've planned to undervolt the 5090 to minimize power usage and heat, but I also hear a lot about how people recommend going for a 1000W PSU for this GPU. Do you think I can stick with my 850W for now or am I making a mistake?

You're right about your current setup being technically capable, but I really wouldn't risk it. The 5090's connectors have melted for some users under load. It's a big investment and if something happens, people will definitely notice that you opted for a lower wattage PSU. Just play it safe!

Nvidia recommends at least a 1000W PSU for the 5090, and I’ve seen many users go for even 1200W. Your 850W setup is older and might not handle the power spikes well, plus using adapters can be risky. If you're spending $2K on a GPU, consider getting a solid 1000W ATX 3.1 PSU for better stability.

Is 1200W really better than 1000W? I have a 1000W Corsair running my 5090 and I’m hesitant about upgrading unless I absolutely have to.
