Is an anti-static wrist strap really necessary for building a PC?

I'm wondering if I need to use an anti-static wrist strap when building my PC, or if it's just an unnecessary precaution. I feel like as long as I'm cautious, I might be fine without it. What do you all think?

Honestly, I think it’s a bit of overkill. Just avoid generating static (like no socks on carpet) and touch the edges of components when you handle them. Plus, it takes quite a bit of electricity to really damage parts these days.

True! It's good to be cautious but I feel like you can manage it without a strap.

I've built several PCs without one and just grab the metal of the case to discharge any static. It’s always worked for me!

Nah, no need for one. Just be careful and you should be good!

It really depends on your room's humidity. If it’s dry, you might want to be careful, but if it gets humid during summer, that helps a bit. Just be aware of your environment!

Yeah, I’d say it’s on the dryer side most of the time. Only gets humid in the hottest part of summer.
