Is Arch Linux a Good Choice for Maximum Customization?

I'm currently exploring different Linux distributions and have been using Fedora for a couple of months, with a brief experience on Pop!_OS and Mint. My daily driver is Ubuntu for work. I'm curious about Arch Linux and its customization capabilities. Are there specific advantages to using Arch? Would it suit someone like me who values maximum customization and isn't too concerned about built-in applications? Also, are there other distros that excel in customization? Lastly, could the Theme Store in KDE be experiencing issues, or is it just a problem with Fedora 43?

You’ll definitely learn a lot from using Arch, even if you end up switching later. If you want a user-friendly Arch experience, check out Omarchy – it makes things easier and is highly customizable too! Plus, if you like working with configuration files, you can tweak everything directly from the menu.

What kind of customization are you looking for? If it's primarily aesthetics, Arch won't really shine in that area compared to other distros. But if you have the time to dive into the Arch Wiki and learn what you're doing, it can be great for customization. Just a heads up, installing Arch can be quite involved, so if you're following tutorials blindly, you might want to start with a more pre-configured distro before jumping into Arch.

That's a good point! It's better to start with something user-friendly before tackling Arch, especially if you're not super experienced.

Yeah, themes can vary a lot in usability. Sometimes a 'broken' theme just means you need to install more dependencies.

Honestly, you won’t really make a bad choice while distro hopping; just give them a shot. If you don’t like one, move on!

If you're not ready to dive straight into Arch, why not try an Arch-based distro like EndeavourOS first? It’s basically Arch but with easier setup options. If that works well, you can then attempt to set up Arch on your own and see how it goes.

Debian might be a solid option if you're looking for customization alongside stability. Just throwing it out there!
