Hey everyone! I'm graduating soon with a degree in computer engineering and I'm weighing my options for a career in tech. Since some fields are more impacted by AI regarding job prospects, I'm particularly interested in DevOps. Here are some of my concerns:
1. Is DevOps still a solid option in 2025?
2. Has AI significantly changed the demand for these roles?
3. Would it be wise for a new grad like me to pursue a DevOps career?
4. Are job opportunities and salaries still competitive compared to other tech roles?
I'd love to get your insights and experiences with this!

From my experience, DevOps roles are very demanding but also rewarding. I started after college and have built a solid career over the years. Just remember, it's not just about being technical; soft skills are equally important. Overall, if you're motivated, you can make it work in this field!

That's inspiring to hear! I'm really eager to get into a field where I can grow my career. Any tips on how to build those soft skills?

While there are some entry-level roles out there, many DevOps positions require experience. You definitely need a mix of skills: networking, scripting, and cloud knowledge are essential. It's competitive, so coming in with a few projects or internships under your belt can help a lot!

That's good advice! I was wondering if internships can count as experience—do you think they help? I have a couple of co-op experiences in related fields.

I’d advise being cautious about jumping into DevOps right away, especially if you're not already familiar with ops. Learning those fundamental skills first can give you an edge. Consider starting in a development role and transitioning into DevOps later when you have more experience.

That's an interesting perspective! I was thinking of combining both roles. Do you think that would be beneficial?

DevOps can be a tough field for entry-level positions. I've been in the industry for a couple of years, and while I faced challenges, it was a great learning experience for me. With that said, if you're willing to dive into new technologies and have a solid background in programming, you might find opportunities. It really depends on your drive and willingness to learn on the job.

This is spot on! A lot depends on the firm's culture and if they're willing to invest in training you. Some companies are great with mentoring, while others throw you in at the deep end.

Honestly, the market feels saturated, but if you can demonstrate technical skills and a proactive attitude, you can still stand out. AI is changing the landscape, but it isn't replacing the need for DevOps just yet. New grads should consider it if they enjoy problem-solving and adapting to new tools.

Thanks for the input! Do you think the salaries for new graduates going into DevOps are decent compared to, say, software development?
