Is Hosting a Simple HTML/CSS/JS Site on GitHub a Good Choice?

I created a basic website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for an educational online school in my area, as per their request. Since it's a lightweight site with no backend or database, I decided to host it on GitHub. However, a colleague of mine teased me, saying that this isn't real deployment, which has left me feeling uncertain about my choice. Is hosting it on GitHub actually a valid option?

From a tech standpoint, it works perfectly since your site doesn't have backend components. Just make sure to check GitHub's terms for Pages. Many clients, especially smaller ones, don’t fuss over the technicalities; they just want a site that's online. It's worth chatting with your client to ensure it's good for their needs.

Absolutely! GitHub Pages is specifically meant for static sites. You're doing everything right by hosting your project there!

GitHub Pages is designed for precisely this scenario. Many businesses and open-source projects use it for hosting their documentation and websites. Your colleague's misunderstanding doesn’t change the fact that your site is publicly accessible over HTTPS, which is true deployment!
