Is it a bad idea to switch jobs after just 3 months due to a toxic work environment?

Hey everyone,

I started working as a DataOps Engineer at a medium-sized product-based company three months ago, and at first, I thought it was a great opportunity. They promised a product-focused environment, hybrid work options, and gave me a 100% salary hike. However, I've quickly learned that this isn't the case. My job expectations align more with a service-based role; I have to do rotational shifts for 24/7 support and often have to work overtime.

What's worse is that the workplace culture is toxic, with some colleagues extending their hours to impress management, which has made my own work-life balance challenging. I often feel excluded, and some coworkers are unhelpful or misguiding. My seniors seem to have unrealistic expectations, expecting the same level of output from me as those who've been here for years, despite only being there for three months.

I'm considering a job switch, but I'm worried. I have about two years of experience and have already switched companies once before, spending around 1.75 years at my first job. I fear that if I switch again, it could negatively impact my resume. I'm also anxious about ending up in a similar situation at another company. How should I navigate this dilemma?

Yeah, it can be so tough to switch after a short time, but if it's truly toxic, it's not worth it. I had a similar experience, and leaving turned out to be the best decision for me. If you decide to go, don't stress too much about the gaps; focus on finding a better fit. Just keep looking and trust your instincts!

Totally agree! I think as long as you can express that the job wasn’t a fit during interviews, you should be fine. Everyone understands that not every job is a match.

Just start searching for new jobs now. I’ve gone through this and it’s about finding the right place for you. If you do move on, skip including this job on your resume if it doesn't fit; it's okay to do that sometimes!

It sounds like you're stuck in a really tough spot. Honestly, if the environment is toxic and it's impacting your mental health, it might be worth considering the switch. You can omit this job from your resume if you choose, or state that it wasn't the right culture fit if asked. Toxic workplaces usually don’t change for the better, so don’t be afraid to prioritize your well-being!

Exactly! It's better to leave than to suffer through it. Just make sure your next move is to a company that aligns with your values.
