Hey everyone! I'm a video editor currently using an i5 CPU with an RTX 3060, 32GB of RAM, and a mix of SSDs and HDDs for storage. My system has been struggling lately, especially with rendering 2K videos in After Effects, which is slowing me down and costing me clients. I'm looking to upgrade my processor, RAM, and motherboard since my old ones are starting to fail. I've got around $1500 to spend, maybe a bit more. I'm considering jumping to a Ryzen 9 9950X or an Intel i9 14900K, but I want to know if pairing one of those with my RTX 3060 is overkill. Do you think this setup would work for my needs?

Honestly, it's a bit much for your current setup. While you can technically pair a Ryzen 9 or an i9 with a 3060, they really shine with higher-end GPUs. If you're on a budget, you might find a Ryzen 7 5800X or something similar that will still do a great job for video editing without overspending. Consider saving for a better GPU later if you find rendering speed still lacking after the CPU upgrade.
Absolutely! If you focus on a balanced build for now, you'll get a noticeable improvement without the potential bottleneck from a high-end CPU.
You could look into options like the Ultra 7 265K. It’s cheaper and performs really well for video editing tasks. This way, you could stick to your budget and possibly snag a solid used GPU like a 4070. Plus, you'll likely get performance that's comparable to more expensive setups.
I haven't heard of the Ultra 7, but I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, I’ll look into that. Sounds like it might be a smarter choice to save some cash without sacrificing performance.
That's a good point! I might be able to get by with a slightly lower-tier CPU and save up for a better GPU in a few months.
