Is it better to upgrade to Ryzen 5th or 7th Gen?

I'm planning a PC upgrade and need advice on whether to go for a Ryzen 5th or 7th generation CPU. Currently, I have a Ryzen 5 2600, and I'm looking to replace my motherboard, CPU, and RAM to support PCIe Gen 4. My options are to either get a Ryzen 5 5600x with 32GB of RAM and a solid Asrock motherboard for about €255, or spend a bit more on a Ryzen 7 7600x for the newer Zen 5 architecture. The idea is that going with the 7th gen will allow for future upgrades to Zen 9. However, if I choose the 7th gen, I might have to settle for 16GB of RAM instead of 32GB. I'm using my PC mainly for gaming (about 70% of the time), including modded Minecraft and newer AAA titles. Currently, I can't get Battlefield 6 to run over 40fps on my system. What do you all think?

If you can, go with AM5 and grab another 16GB stick later when your budget allows. Upgrading from 7th to 9th gen doesn’t seem worth it; just stick with the 7600x until something significant comes out.

For a new motherboard, the choice is clear: go with AM5. It’s the way forward!

Before making a decision, what's your current GPU and motherboard? It might help to post your setup on PCPartPicker for better suggestions. Buying an older motherboard might not be the best move. Consider updating your current one and opt for the Ryzen 5600 instead, and hold onto your current GPU for now.

I have an RX 6600 and an Asus Strix B350F gaming motherboard. Right now, I'm just focused on upgrading the mobo, CPU, and RAM; I'll tackle the GPU later on.

Definitely go for the AM5 platform; the 5600 is starting to feel outdated. Picking the 7600x would be a smart move for future-proofing your setup.

I was torn between the two as well, but I think I'll lean towards the 7600x too. From what I've heard, it's offering great performance.
