I have a very strong blue Wifi router installed by my landlord in the ceiling of my bedroom, and it's super bright. To make it less noticeable, I've covered it with some paper and a small tablecloth taped to the ceiling. I'm wondering if this affects its performance. Do Wifi routers generate a lot of heat? The coverage still seems good in my small apartment.

For a quick fix, consider using black electrical tape or even masking tape with a piece of paper cut to size. That should block the lights adequately if you’re looking for a simple solution.
It really depends on the router model. Some routers can get pretty warm, so blocking airflow might not be the best idea. A good test is to touch it after it's been covered for a while to see if it feels too warm. If it's cooler than before, you're probably fine! Otherwise, maybe just cover the lights with some black tape if that’s what’s bothering you.
Most routers can handle some light covering, so you'll likely be okay. Just make sure you're not fully enclosing it! If you're mainly worried about the bright light, you could check if there's an option to disable it in the router settings.
Sounds like you might have a Ubiquiti UniFi access point, which usually has a bright light. You can turn that off without impacting the Wifi signal; there's a feature called 'night mode' that your landlord can enable for you. If they resist, a little dab of latex caulk over the light works like a charm, but your landlord might not appreciate that!
