I recently needed to repurpose my old Kingston NV2 SSD from my gaming laptop. Since I had to use some tape to hold it down after breaking a pin, there's a bit of sticky residue left on the label. Now that I'm planning to use this SSD in my new PC, the motherboard has an SSD shield with thermal pads. I'm wondering if I can use alcohol to clean off the residue or if that's a bad idea?

You can definitely use alcohol to clean it, just make sure to use a high concentration. I do it all the time with my electronics and it works great!
Honestly, the only part of the SSD that really needs cooling is the controller chip. The adhesive residue isn't thick enough to be a problem, so don’t stress about it too much. Also, if your SSD is older, ripping off the label should be fine since the warranty is likely expired anyway.
Using 90% alcohol is ideal because it dries quickly. 70% will work too, but you’ll just need to let it sit a bit longer since it has more water in it. Just be sure to clean it gently.
