Is It Safe to Install Windows 11 on an Unsupported CPU?

Hey folks! With Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 this fall, I'm finally considering making the switch to Windows 11. The catch is that my CPU, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, isn't on the list of supported processors. I've come across some workarounds that supposedly let you install Windows 11 without the CPU check, and I'd love to hear from anyone who's done this. How does your system perform with an unsupported CPU? Have you faced any performance issues or other problems?

Since the Ryzen 5 1600X is an AM4 socket CPU, if your motherboard supports it, you might think about upgrading to a supported AMD CPU. Most of them start at 3rd gen. Just keep in mind that Microsoft may start limiting updates for unsupported hardware if you decide to go ahead with the installation.

I didn't have any issues at all! Just remember to update your BIOS and use Rufus to create your USB installer. The 24H2 build works fine; we'll see how it goes with future updates. If you're still having doubts, you could also consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 4500, which offers better performance for around 60 bucks. Just make sure to confirm it’s compatible with your motherboard!

I plan on upgrading next year anyway!

For the latest release (24H2), if your CPU lacks certain security features, it won't install even with Rufus. You can get 23H2 up and running, but remember that it hits EOL in November/December this year.

So, if the CPU fails that check, I won't be able to move past 23H2?

I recently put Windows 11 on a 4th gen Intel CPU, and it updated to 24H2 seamlessly!

Why not just give it a shot? Sometimes you’ll only get a warning. Use Rufus to make a bootable USB and go for it!

I just wanted some opinions from people who have been there, you know?
