Is it safe to reply to a text from an unknown number?

I just got a message from someone I don't recognize asking if I'm free tomorrow. Should I respond with 'Who is this?' since it could be someone I know or a potential employer? I've been applying for jobs lately, but I'm worried if I reply it might just confirm that my number is active to a scammer. What's the best approach here?

I wouldn't respond at all. It could be a scam to gauge your activity. Even a simple reply like 'Who is this?' can confirm you’re a real person, which scammers love.

Honestly, it's better not to reply. Responding could let the sender know that your number is active, which might lead to more spam messages in the future. Just mark it as spam and delete it.

Definitely block and forget it. Most likely it's just a phishing attempt. Genuine inquiries usually come with clear identification.

I once replied to a wrong number thinking it was harmless, but it turned out to be a scam trying to get close over time. Better to be safe and just ignore it.

I think blocking the number is the safest bet. If it were a legitimate message, they would have included their name or company info, right? Just move on!
