I've got a few PCs that I'm working on for different tasks, and one of them has been making a crazy loud noise when the CPU is under load. I'm guessing it's due to the thermal paste drying out since I don't have a case for the motherboard, and the fan just sits on it. I also have an old, broken PC with a bad PSU and motherboard. Can I scoop some thermal paste from that old one and use it on my current one? The PC I'm fixing is around 10 years old, and I just need a temporary solution until I can get new thermal paste.

Reusing old thermal paste isn't the best idea. Think of it like trying to use old, dirty oil in a car—the temps won't be great, and it could lead to further overheating issues. It might not perform well, especially for a CPU that's already struggling. If you can hold out for a few days, it's definitely better to wait for fresh thermal paste!
Would using the old paste at least help for a bit until the new stuff arrives? I just want to keep my temps down while I wait!
