I have a brand new Android TV box, the SVICloud 10P, which I haven't even opened yet. I've done a bit of research and found out that many of these boxes can come with malware like the codejava/Kimwolf Botnet, and that worries me since I don't really understand what that means. My question is, if I still want to use this TV box, would it be safe to set up a separate guest network on my Asus router and connect the TV box to that network only? Would this help in minimizing the risk since it's not connected to my main network? Or is it still possible for the box to affect my main network or compromise my security in a way I might not fully grasp?

Setting up a separate guest network is a smart move! This can significantly reduce the risk of malware affecting your main network. While regular worms might not get through, keep in mind that some malware could still run a botnet from your public IP. That could lead to issues like account restrictions or DMCA notices, especially if someone uses it to torrent stuff.
And let's not forget about privacy risks. There’s a chance the device could be tracking your activities and sending that data back somewhere.

That's a good point! What happens exactly if it does run a botnet from the public IP?
