Is It Safe to Use My PC in a Flickering Basement?

I'm considering setting up my PC in the basement, but the lights flicker occasionally—about every 20 minutes or so, lasting less than a second. This happens in several rooms in the house, and the basement is on different fuses; the fuse box is nearby my setup location. I've previously used my old laptop for sim racing down there, and it didn't have any issues with the flickering. The house is a bit old, so I'm wondering if it's safe to plug in my PC. Here are my specs for reference:

- PSU: Corsair RM850x modular ATX 3.1
- GPU: PowerColor RX9070XT Reaper
- CPU: 7800X3D
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB 6400MHz CL36 1.35V
- SSD: Kingston KC3000 2TB
- Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Black
- Case: Chieftec Apex Air

Thanks for any insights!

I'd recommend calling an electrician, especially if the flickering is happening in various parts of the house. It might indicate an issue with the wiring or the panel, which could be a fire hazard. If you really have to use a circuit that flickers, a UPS is essential to avoid any unexpected shutdowns or crashes.

Definitely get a quality surge protector! It can really help protect your PC from any damage due to minor power issues. Better safe than sorry, right?

I've been using a power strip with built-in surge protection upstairs for my PC, and it's been solid!

I've been down here for about an hour, and the lights only flickered twice, so it seems manageable for now. But still, might be worth looking into some protection.

Your PSU is pretty solid and can handle small power fluctuations. But just to be safe for the long haul, connecting a UPS could help even out those drops and keep your setup running smoothly.

You might want to consider investing in a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). It can smooth out the power and keep things running without interruption. While flickering isn't a huge concern, if the voltage dips too low, your PC could shut off. Just a thought!

That makes sense! I might grab a small UPS since power outages are rare here, but I still want to be cautious with the flickers.
