Advice Needed: Which GPU Should I Buy for My First PC Build?

I'm gearing up to build my first PC after years of using regular laptops and non-gaming desktops. Currently, I'm using a system with an Intel i5 (8th gen) and 8GB DDR4 RAM without a dedicated graphics card. Since I finally have the budget to create a capable gaming rig, I'm planning to start building in about six months, even with all the ongoing issues with RAM prices (the so-called 'Ramageddon').

I'm looking to spend around $500 on a GPU, with a total budget of about $1200—though I can be flexible since I've already got a case and SSD lined up. Initially, I was considering the Radeon RX 9070, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, I plan to use Linux, which makes an AMD GPU more appealing.

For the CPU, I'm leaning towards a Ryzen 9900x, prioritizing cores and threads for work over 3D capabilities. I'm really curious—is it worth starting the build now, or should I wait for the hardware issues to settle? I don't want to delay another two years just to play games comfortably!

If you can snag the Radeon RX 9070 within your budget, go for it! It should serve you well for gaming on Linux. Just keep an eye on stock and pricing; things can fluctuate. Overall, it's a solid choice for your first build!
