I'm currently using a 7900X CPU in my gaming setup, which I mainly use for gaming (about 75% of the time) on a 5080 build at 1440p. I've come across mixed reviews regarding whether I should stick with the 7900X or upgrade to the new 9850X3D. Some say the 7900X is sufficient, while a few suggest that for just around $150 more, I could go for the 9950X3D instead. What do you think?

Honestly, your 7900X is a solid CPU for now. I’d recommend waiting for the next generation, Zen 6, which is expected to bring some significant improvements, especially with its 12-core dies. For gaming, something like a 7600X or 9600X would be enough for your 5080 setup, and the 7900X is comparable to the 7600X in gaming performance, just faster in other areas.

Ah, I see. Thanks, yeah I think I’m worried I’m missing out with the X3D models. But likely best to wait for next gen like you said.
