Is It Time to Upgrade from My 3080 for 1440p Gaming?

I've been using my 3080 10GB since the pandemic started and it has served me well. Recently, however, I'm struggling at 1440p, especially with demanding games like Dune Awakening where I experience heavy frame drops to around 10-20 FPS. I rely on DLSS but it's not enough to keep my frame rates high. My main game is Hell Let Loose, and I hope to play it in 4K on high settings next spring when the new Vietnam update comes out. With the 5090s finally becoming available again at MSRP, I'm torn about whether to upgrade now or wait. There's also the option to get the 9800x3d on sale or hold out for the 10800x3d and possibly the 5080 Super. Should I go for it now or hang tight for a bit?

Having run 1440p on an ultra-wide without issues, I'd say if you're aiming for 200+ FPS, upgrading is a smart move. Just remember, your CPU could be the bottleneck, so consider that alongside your GPU choice!

For a sensible upgrade path, consider starting with a CPU upgrade. A Ryzen 7600 or 9600 paired with your 3080 could keep you going for a bit longer. If that doesn’t improve performance enough, then look at stepping up to a 5070Ti down the line. Spread your upgrade costs over time for better long-term value.

Thanks for that advice, it sounds like a solid plan!
