Is It Time to Upgrade My CPU for Gaming?

I'm gaming on a 1440p 100Hz monitor with an RTX 3060, an i3 12100F, a Gigabyte B660M DS3H motherboard, and 32GB of RAM. I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU to something like an RX 7900 XT or non-XT to achieve higher settings at 100fps, but I'm concerned that my CPU might bottleneck the performance. I've also read that my motherboard isn't optimal for the 14th generation Intel CPUs. What should I do? I want to enjoy games like God of War: Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 at high or maximum settings.

Why not get the GPU first and see if the bottleneck is an issue? Your motherboard can support the 14th gen Intel CPUs with a BIOS update, so if you find the performance lacking, you could consider upgrading your CPU later. The i5 14400 would be a solid choice for your motherboard, but if you're feeling bold, the i5 14600 could work too!

A lot of users have reported that the i5 14600 works well, and even the i5 14700 is fine as long as you do that BIOS update. The i9 14900K had some initial issues, but most have been resolved. Just keep that in mind when you're making your upgrade plans!
