Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I've been thinking a lot about my journey in learning JavaScript, HTML, and CSS over the past year or so. While I've made some decent progress – like being able to create static web pages and add some interactivity with JavaScript – I still feel like I have a long way to go, especially since I can't build larger applications yet.
Lately, I've been struggling with feelings of insecurity about whether it's too late for me to enter the web development field. At 33 years old, the junior positions I've been looking for seem almost nonexistent. I genuinely enjoy the creative aspect of building things like menus, navigation bars, and interactive elements on the web, but I'm considering a backup plan to take some fiber optics classes and pivot towards networking. However, I'm not sure that would be as fulfilling. So, what do you think? Is it too late for me to pursue a career in web development?

Congrats on sticking with this for over a year! Learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a solid foundation, but maybe it’s time to dive into a frontend framework like React or Vue. I see junior positions here and there, so it might just depend on where you're looking! Also, sometimes our anxiety can hold us back from putting ourselves out there, so try not to let that stop you.
It’s definitely not too late! But if you're really serious about this, it’s important to stay focused and build your skills seriously. Spending a year just dabbling may not be enough. You’ll need to up your game by learning TypeScript, some frontend frameworks, and more backend basics to really stand out. It’s a long road, but it’s possible if you’re committed!

You might want to consider learning fiber optics for a steady income, but that doesn’t mean you should stop coding! Maybe treat web development as a side hobby for now. You can build simple websites for small businesses on the side while you find a more stable job. What you're feeling is pretty common and often called Imposter Syndrome. It’s tough because the more you learn, the more you realize how much there is still to know, which can make you doubt yourself. But honestly, if you enjoy frontend development, I say go for it! The job market might be tricky at times, but as long as the internet exists, there will be a need for developers. You might want to explore some modern frontend frameworks to level up your skills!
