I'm considering whether to add an internal Blu-ray drive to my PC since my case can support it (Pop Air). I frequently rip 1080p Blu-rays using my external drive, but I'm curious if there are any real advantages to having an internal drive too. If there are benefits, what kind should I look for? I currently have an LG BP50NB40 external drive.

I definitely recommend going for an internal drive. It just makes things easier. I've got an internal one in my Asus system, and while my external drive works great, I enjoy not having to deal with extra cables. It’s also quieter and always ready to use.
There are a couple of small advantages to an internal drive. First, they save space since they fit inside your case. Second, they typically have a more stable connection, which can be a bit more reliable in the long run. However, these benefits aren’t particularly huge.
If you can find an internal drive for a good price, it might be worth it. As production drops, these drives could get more expensive. Plus, if your external drive ever fails, having an internal backup could save you a headache.
For most users, modern USB Blu-ray drives are fast enough. If your external drive is relatively new, it probably performs just fine. Plus, it's generally better to write at lower speeds for better quality.
One benefit of having an internal Blu-ray drive is that you could rip two discs at once if you set it up right. If you use software like MakeMKV, you can run multiple instances in single drive mode and get more done at once.
