Is It Worth Having Both a Mac and a Windows Machine for Someone Just Starting Out?

I'm just starting to figure out my tech path—whether it's programming, IT, or something else. At the moment, I have a MacBook Pro with 48 GB of RAM and an M4 Pro chip, plus a Windows machine with 16 GB of RAM. I know Parallels exists for running Windows on my Mac, and I've also heard about apps that let you control both systems with one mouse. I'm wondering if it's worth incorporating the Windows machine into my setup. My thinking is that with 64 GB of RAM across both machines, maybe the Windows device could handle specific tasks, acting as a backup storage for my Dropbox and more, since I mainly use my Mac for gaming (like Minecraft and WoW). Is there a way to make the most of the Windows machine, or is it better to stick with the Mac?

If your Legion Go has a low voltage CPU and some available slots or fast USB ports, you could set it up as a home server. It could handle backups, act as a media server, or even run Kubernetes, Docker, or VMs. Check out resources like 'homelab' or TrueNAS for ideas. There are lots of cool projects you can do with it!

Your Mac's M4 with 48 GB RAM is a fantastic machine! It's likely enough for most tasks. If you need more power later, you could always use cloud computing for larger projects.

When you're just starting out, hardware isn't everything. A basic used laptop could work just fine unless you're diving into something really heavy like game development. Stick with your Mac for now, and if you ever feel limited, then consider upgrading. Your current setup is solid!

I totally get that! I mainly got the Legion Go for backup before I even got the Mac. I'm just wondering if there are any cool ways to use it alongside my Mac, to make it more than just a storage unit.

For running Android Studio or development environments, a stronger machine helps a lot, but it depends on what you're working on!
